*In an effort to bring AFL in line with standard procedures in Alliance Française chapters around the world, we request that all students in adult classes be members of AFL. Since AFL students are indeed students, they will be able to purchase a membership at the student rate of $25 per year. Being a member has its benefits ― members receive the e-newsletter, the Quoi de Neuf, a review of AFL's current events and/or news of happenings in the neighborhood with a French and/or francophone connection, and other notices such as "Save the Date" announcements. In addition, members have access to special prices and discounts for events and also to "member-only" events. These membership requirements do not apply to children's classes, however, we do encourage that families join so that they will be able to enjoy all of AFL's privileges.

April 9 - June 18

On y va
This level has three sessions, which can be taken in any order.
- The focus of this level is the acquisition of conversational and listening skills, which involve the present, and past tenses of high frequency verbs as well as the near future.
- Students will develop strategies to understand more complex conversational and/or reading structures and begin to use these in their own speech.
- The vocabulary topics and cultural themes will vary from session to session.
- The variety of topics will allow the student to increase their vocabulary while continuing to acquire fundamental grammatical structures necessary for successful communication.
Atelier d’été
Joyeux Anniversaire — This lesson will give you tips on how to be the perfect guest — What flowers to offer the hostess and how to compliment her food.
Qu’est-ce que vous faites…? How do Americans and the French spend their leisure time? Survey your class and then compare the results with a survey of French people. Any surprises?
Soyez précis! — Learn to go beyond the formalities of conversation and to give your opinion.
Atelier d’automne
La vie n’est pas toujours facile! — What happens when life has those rough spots? Learn how to ask for information, to offer advice and to solve problems! Topic is the Paris metro/public
On peut toujours s’arranger! — They say that where there are 3 Frenchmen together, there will be 4 opinions! Learn how to be persuasive and how to agree to disagree.
Une journée bien remplie! — “Métro, boulot, dodo.” That describes the daily routine most of us experience. What vocabulary will you need to talk about your very busy day?
Atelier d’hiver
Un certain savoir-faire — This lesson will make you very “savvy’ — you’ll learn all those prepositions that indicate place, the silent language of gestures, the secrets of the three verbs “to know”.
Vouloir, c’est pouvoir. — “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”. Once again, you get to practice asking those important questions, understanding the answers and saying what you really think is important.
Qu’est-ce que vous en pensez? — Learn how to give your opinion on something using pronouns instead of repeating the noun. You will sound so much more French! The topic is fashion.

En route!
This level has four sessions, which can be taken in any order.
- The focus of this level is the acquisition of conversational and listening skills, which involve a wider range of tenses than in "On y Va!"
- Students will develop strategies to understand more complex conversational and/or reading structures and begin to use these by incorporating more sophisticated tenses (the subjunctive, the future, conditional and complex past tenses) into their speech.
- The vocabulary topics and cultural themes will vary from session to session.
- The variety of topics will allow the student to increase their vocabulary while continuing to acquire these more advanced grammatical structures necessary for successful communication.
Atelier d’hiver
A table! — What are the rules of etiquette when dining in France? What is the vocabulary necessary to correct order and describe what you are eating?
Faisons le marché! — What's on your shopping list? Do you know all the terms for the various quantities and types of fruit and vegetables?
Y ou en? — What are those two little words that the French use so much? Use them in the context of a day at work.
Atelier d’été
12 m² à louer. — What kind of apartment is that? Learn the vocabulary for describing an apartment/house and giving your opinion of it.
Celle/celui que je préfère. — Whether you are looking at clothes or cars, learn to be specific in expressing your preferences. You don't want to be misunderstood.
Avez-vous bien observé? — Learn how to relate a past event with lots of details. Who was doing what when why and how?
Atelier d’automne
Avantages et inconvénients. — Learn how to compare and contrast and state your choice. This lesson also introduces lots of idiomatic French that might mystify you at first (ex: “Il a gagné les doigts dans le nez” means “Il a gagné sans difficulté”).
Les règles du jeu. — What are the rules of the game when you want to talk about the best of something? How interested in sports are the French?
Ca sera comment? — What will the future hold? Use the vocabulary of nature and ecology to talk about conditions today and what the future may bring.
