Same Meaning, Different Images: English Idioms Through a French Lens Divine Mosaka, AFL Instructor
Date: Saturday, April 11th, 2026 Time: 10 AM - 12 PM Location: AFL Office | 9505 Williamsburg Plaza, Conference Room Price: $35 for AFL Members | $45 for non-members Join AFL Instructor Divine Mosaka for an interactive Immersion Workshop exploring the richness and quirks of French idiomatic expressions. Dive in, practice, and discover how these phrases bring the language to life. Learning a language is more than learning vocabulary and grammar. It is learning how a culture thinks. Idioms are powerful linguistic tools because they compress centuries of history, belief systems, literature, and daily life into a few words. These differences are not mistakes in translation; they are windows into cultural imagination. By comparing images rather than simply translating words, you will discover that language is not only a system, it is a worldview and idioms are linguistic fossils. To understand idioms is to understand how a society imagines the world. -
