Description: Author Patrick Litanga will discuss the historical, political and economic backdrop of the book: the failure of the Congolese state in the years preceding the conflict, Rwanda’s justifications for military involvement in Congo in the 1990s, and the deterioration of the relationship between Congolese and Rwandans. Litanga will also dive into the personal context that led him to write this book, the structure of the book, and the pertinence of fictional narrative in relation to the recent history of Congo.
Patrick B. Litanga Biography
Patrick B. Litanga is an Assistant Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), in Richmond, Kentucky. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Litanga worked in refugee resettlement services for seven years in Louisville, Kentucky, prior to joining EKU. Litanga’s research interests include post conflict reconstruction, African electoral politics, African social movements, and African Diasporas. Some of Litanga’s writings have appeared in The New Internationalist Magazine, Aljazeera, and AllAfrica.com.
