Designed for learners at the A2–B1 level, this 10-week course focuses on helping students connect French sounds to their written forms while addressing pronunciation challenges commonly encountered by English speakers. Using Exercises in French Phonics by Francis W. Nachtmann as the primary text, participants will develop greater accuracy in producing and recognizing French vowels, nasal sounds, consonants, silent letters, and other key features of French pronunciation. Through guided practice and oral drills, students will learn to decode unfamiliar words and improve both their spoken fluency and reading confidence. When: Tuesday 6 - 8 pm, July 7 - September 8, 2026 Prof : Fatima Nsais Location : Online (link will be provided) Required Materials: Préparation au DELF A1 (ISBN-13: 978-8183074315) Course Description: Prepare for success on the DELF A1 exam while building a strong foundation in French language skills. This course is designed for beginner learners and focuses on the four competencies assessed on the exam: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will develop the ability to understand and use everyday expressions and simple phrases related to familiar topics such as personal information, family, shopping, and daily routines. Through interactive activities, guided practice, and authentic materials, learners will gain confidence communicating in common real-life situations. The course introduces essential grammar structures, practical vocabulary, and pronunciation strategies needed at the A1 level. Students will become familiar with the format and expectations of each section of the DELF A1 examination. Regular practice exercises and mock exam activities will help learners strengthen their skills and track their progress. While the course is designed around DELF A1 standards and exam preparation, taking the DELF examination is entirely optional. Please note that Louisville is not currently a DELF testing center, and candidates wishing to sit for the exam will need to register at an authorized testing location. This course is designed for learners who have completed the A1 level or possess equivalent knowledge of French. Students will strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities while expanding their vocabulary and command of essential grammar. Course activities focus on practical communication in everyday situations, including travel, work, education, health, and social interactions. Learners will develop the ability to understand and exchange information on familiar topics with greater independence and accuracy. Authentic texts, audio recordings, and conversational practice will help students improve comprehension and fluency. The course provides detailed instruction on the DELF A2 exam format, scoring criteria, and effective test-taking strategies. Regular practice assessments and simulated exam tasks will help students become comfortable with the structure and timing of the examination. While the course follows DELF A2 standards and prepares students for the exam, participation in the official DELF examination is not required. Please note that Louisville is not currently a DELF testing center, and candidates who wish to earn the DELF credential must register at an authorized testing site.
