    When: Monday-Friday, 8am - 12pm, July 6-10, 2026 Prof : Thomas Lawrence Location : Alliance Française de Louisville Classroom Course Description: Join us for a week of French immersion designed specifically for A1–A2 learners led by AFL instructor Thomas Lawerence. This unique program provides a supportive environment where participants will spend each morning communicating exclusively in French while building confidence and fluency. Through guided conversation, pronunciation practice using music and poetry, authentic French-language texts and media, and a collaborative reading circle, students will strengthen their speaking, listening, reading, and comprehension skills. While the experience may be challenging at times, full immersion is one of the most effective ways to accelerate language acquisition. Come ready to engage, take risks, and discover just how much French you can use in real-life situations! The cost includes 20 hours of instruction/interaction as well as breakfast and refreshments. No registrations will be accepted after the camp begins on Monday, July 6.

    When : Wednesday, 6:30 - 8:30 pm, July 8 - August 9, 2026 Prof : Joseph Mackenzie-Rollinson Location : Online (link will be provided) Course Description: Aimed at upper-intermediate/advanced students in the French language (5+ years of study), this class is  designed to improve and/or maintain your fluency in French, as well as branching out into learning and using colloquialisms and more advanced expressions in order to build as close to a native level of fluency as possible. Class discussions will be based on two formats: spontaneous exchanges on topics brought up by students and material assigned in advance by the instructor. Such material may include magazine articles, headline news focusing on contemporary issues, short stories, movies, poems, and songs.

Study of vocabulary, grammar, and culture will still be fully integrated within the course and taught in context. Prerequisite: All A1 level courses or placement by instructor.

    When: Thursday 6 - 8 pm, July 9 - September 10, 2026 Prof : Fatima Nsais Location : Online (link will be provided) Required Materials: Préparation au DELF A2 (ISBN 13: 978-8183074322) Course Description: Build on your foundational French skills and prepare confidently for the DELF A2 examination. This course is designed for learners who have completed the A1 level or possess equivalent knowledge of French. Students will strengthen their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities while expanding their vocabulary and command of essential grammar. Course activities focus on practical communication in everyday situations, including travel, work, education, health, and social interactions. Learners will develop the ability to understand and exchange information on familiar topics with greater independence and accuracy. Authentic texts, audio recordings, and conversational practice will help students improve comprehension and fluency. The course provides detailed instruction on the DELF A2 exam format, scoring criteria, and effective test-taking strategies. Regular practice assessments and simulated exam tasks will help students become comfortable with the structure and timing of the examination. While the course follows DELF A2 standards and prepares students for the exam, participation in the official DELF examination is not required. Please note that Louisville is not currently a DELF testing center, and candidates who wish to earn the DELF credential must register at an authorized testing site. By the end of the course, students will be well prepared to take the DELF A2 exam or continue advancing their French language skills for personal, academic, or professional goals.

This course is designed for beginner learners and focuses on the four competencies assessed on the exam: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will develop the ability to understand and use everyday expressions and simple phrases related to familiar topics such as personal information, family, shopping, and daily routines. Through interactive activities, guided practice, and authentic materials, learners will gain confidence communicating in common real-life situations. The course introduces essential grammar structures, practical vocabulary, and pronunciation strategies needed at the A1 level. Students will become familiar with the format and expectations of each section of the DELF A1 examination. Regular practice exercises and mock exam activities will help learners strengthen their skills and track their progress. While the course is designed around DELF A1 standards and exam preparation, taking the DELF examination is entirely optional. Please note that Louisville is not currently a DELF testing center, and candidates wishing to sit for the exam will need to register at an authorized testing location.
